    About the Book

    Edit

    2nd edition 15 July 2018...
A history of several families who had their origins in 19th century Ireland and made their way, whether voluntarily or not, to lands of opportunity in Australia, New Zealand and America. The families included: Carney, English, Liddy, Coffey, Maguire, Fagan, Kelliher, Dorey, Donohue and Douglas.
This book is the culmination of 40 years of research by Mary Smith, a librarian by trade, whose research has taken her to Ireland, Australia and the British Library, amongst other places. John Wood came to the research late in the process but his retirement from a career as a history teacher allowed time to research the subject he loved the best, family history.

History teaching was my job but also my passion. There is no better way of learning history than traveling to the site where it happened. As a teacher at a Bangkok international school for 20 years I was very fortunate to be so close to some of history's great sites, and even more fortunate that the wonderful students were keen to take history trips and make them so enjoyable. Since retirement I have had the great privilege of researching and writing family history and meeting some amazing people who are a part of my wider family.
