In the Maroni River, Brazilian men flee poverty aboard makeshift barges. These boats, equipped with motor pumps, plunge their long hoses into the riverbed. Divers, with only an oxygen nozzle in their mouths and sometimes with rudimentary suits, guide the suction pipes through the silt in search of gold nuggets. Hardened by life, often armed, they work for a boss who takes the extracted gold and gives them a share. It is in this opaque world, between feats, violence, and survival, that this story begins.
