Enrique Collar’s much-anticipated exhibition, “Stills: Volume II,” is set to grace Gallery WM from May 31st to June 29th, 2024. Collar, known for his prowess as both a filmmaker and a painter, presents a mesmerizing series of meta-realist and photo-realist duo-chrome oil paintings extracted from his acclaimed feature films “Novena” (2010) and “Costa Dulce” (2013). Delving into the intricate narratives of rural hardship and mythical allure, Collar’s works offer a profound exploration of human experiences.

“Stills: Volume II” by Rotterdam-based director and painter Enrique Collar invites viewers on a cinematic journey through the lens of painting. Drawing from his directorial (Guaraní-spoken) docufictions “Novena” and “Costa Dulce,” Collar intricately captures poignant moments and evocative landscapes in mesmerizing duo-chrome oil paintings. Collar’s artistic journey, shaped by his migration from Paraguay to his current residence in Rotterdam, has profoundly influenced his creative evolution. Living in different cultural contexts has exposed Collar to a rich tapestry of traditions, customs, and beliefs, broadening his understanding of the human experience and allowing him to explore the multifaceted aspects of identity and the fluidity of shared narratives.
