    About the Book

    Edit

It is important to celebrate a life well lived. Joyce Doolittle, a most remarkable woman and vital influencer of the arts, not just in Calgary and Canada but worldwide, died in the time of Covid.

This denied her the traditional kind of enthusiastic gathering and celebration her life and accomplishments deserve. It was this void that inspired Joyce Doolittle Stories: A Community Telling.

This little book is the legacy Joyce Doolittle most certainly deserves - because it is praise, memories, stories and anecdotes told by more than 60 people whose lives she touched, coupled with a brief story of her life, her passion for the arts and her love for her husband Quenten and their four children.

The wonderful thing about this legacy book is you don’t need to have known Joyce personally to enjoy the many little treasures between its covers. It is so infused with love and admiration that Joyce comes alive for you as you read through it.

SallyV Truss SallyV has been on the loose ever since she ‘ran away and joined the circus’ of travelling folk singers in the late 1960s. Her world expanded to include Toronto, Halifax, New Orleans, Huston, Vancouver – and many roads in between – by way of coffeehouses, concert halls and bars. Ultimately, SallyV is a storyteller. Her voice is entertaining, evocative – thoughtful. Her poems, rants, and songspiels invite the reader into her journey and in doing so, brings the reader home to their own. Some other recent projects include story-editor and project management of management of Jan Truss’s PAPER BIRD, John Taplin’s EASIER SAID THAN DONE, and the tribute collection of JOYCE DOOLITTLE: a community telling. Sally’s Skipping Song was included in Shaun Hunter’s Calgary Through the Eyes of Writers, a surprising honour. She is a contributor to the poetry book FATES, and the author of the collection of poems, songspiel and rant - HWY 22.
