    About the Book

    Edit

Burl Wilkerson was born in the small town of Brady during The Time it Never Rained drought that crippled West Texas in the 1950s. He came of age in the turbulent 1960s and roamed the streets of Austin as a singer/songwriter during the 1970s Outlaw Country days of Willie and Waylon. Burl has written songs for Nashville record labels and entertained infamous gangsters and gamblers on Fort Worth’s Thunder Road. He has befriended three Speakers of the Texas House of Representatives. Burl Wilkerson has performed with famous musicians, hobnobbed with old money, played his tunes behind chicken wire and under the spotlights of the most famous honky-tonks from LA to Nashville. In Burl and the Ghost Wilkerson recounts the songs he’s written, the women he’s loved, and the social changes he’s witnessed in his 75 years of playing music.
