About the Book
With such short runtimes, documentation of these installations has become an integral component of the process and this catalog is the result of that detailed recording. Of course, as public art installations, these works are, first and foremost, meant to be experienced directly, so that visitors can engage with the installations through movement and duration, as much as through sight. As such, it should be noted that this catalog doesn’t really do justice to these wonderful exhibitions ... and never could.
Previous installations have included everything from elaborate light displays to colorful sculptural formations, from one-off fashion catwalks to a week-long endurance performance featuring the ongoing manipulation of 200 pounds of fresh clay. Visitors are encouraged to experience these temporary installations directly and in person, if and when they can. Check the Cerritos College Art Gallery website and upcoming social media posts for further information on future projects and, if you happen to be an artist yourself and would like to participate, for future open calls.
The Cerritos College Art Gallery presents rotating exhibitions highlighting the work of emerging and mid-career artists. A special emphasis is placed on works that confront challenging and pressing issues in contemporary art and culture. In support of exhibitions, the Cerritos College Art Gallery also regularly hosts workshops, lectures, and performances.
