    About the Book

    Edit

Everything is connected. Creating images of the natural world
helps shape my spiritual understanding of life, along with broadening
my skills as a naturalist. The rhythms of outdoor life are primal and
fundamental. I find them meditative, inspirational and rejuvenating.
Hopefully, my work reflects that to you the viewer.

My art revolves around shapes. Geometry, algebra and maybe sometimes
    even calculus.

When I have a fever and dream, I see the colored building blocks I
played with as a child. Shapes swirl in my head as untether from the
conscious world. I solve problems visually by making shapes of problems
and rotating them in my head until they harmonize. So when
    nature reveals shapes, I celebrate.

Like musical riffs or resonant stories, the shapes that we see connect
us to everything – including like-minded people who appreciate
    the same shapes.

Part of the delight of an eclipse is the universal sphere that it generates.
And the pattern of one orb obscuring another – from a certain
vantage point – creates a deep emotional reaction, (as well as a way
for Einstein to prove the theory of relativity.)

Whales are the entire chest of the best toy blocks all in one – cylinders,
triangles, circles, grooves, smooth, knobby and flexible.
The desert dunes should need no explanation at all.

As an artist, I strongly believe that art should be emotionally and
intellectually accessible, and not require an advanced degree to
appreciate. I hope that you revel as I did in the visual treat of nature
making some of its best shapes. I’m grateful to share with you some
of the Southern Hemisphere forms and contours that made up my
    summer.
