    About the Book

    Edit

The WWII Western Front and German Culture Trip is featured in this history guide and journal. Travelers have an overview of WWII events from London to Berlin as well as Austria. Editorial commentary is enhanced with historical maps, excerpts from WWII veteran oral history accounts or wartime letters which are archived with the Legacy Initiative Project. The traveler has the option to make notes on the journal pages in the book. The itinerary goes from London to Portsmouth, across the Channel to Caen in Normandy; there is a visit to Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, then on to Rouen and Paris. Leaving France, travelers go north to Bastogne in Belgium for a study of the Battle of the Bulge. Cemeteries in Normandy and Belgium are featured as well. Leaving Bastogne, travelers continue on to Cologne, Germany, which was liberated by the 3rd Armored Division. Just as Allied forces moved eastward towards Berlin in the spring of 1945, travelers continue on to Berlin where remnants of WWII and the Cold War can be seen. Commentary is also included for Nuremberg, Munich and Salzburg. Of special interest in the journal are maps, photos and oral history accounts from veterans who served in the European theater. The author/editor has lived and traveled extensively in Europe, including a number of WWII-themed trip which provide many of the photos in the journal. The author has taught European history, military history, and German, and is the founder and director of the Legacy Initiative Project which publishes anthologies at a private independent school in Indianapolis.

I received a BA in history from Scripps College, an MA in European History from University of Illinois, and was a Summer Seminarian at West Point in 2004. I am the recipient of awards from the American Legion, the Indiana Historical Society, the DAR and the Indianapolis WW2 Round Table. I have taught European History, Military History, Historiography at the secondary level, and German at secondary and college levels. I founded and continue to direct the Legacy Initiative Project, whose mission is to provide hands-on history research opportunities for motivated students, including the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. Hundreds of the best wartime oral histories, letters and diaries have been published in five anthologies, four biographies, as well as WW1 and WW2 themed travel journals. I have lived and traveled in Europe and Asia with family, groups of students and adults. For more details about the Legacy Initiative Project go to: www.parktudor.org/legacy
