    Ce livre retrace un voyage d’un mois à travers le Vietnam qui mènera le lecteur des montagnes du Haut Tonkin aux confins de la Chine jusqu’au delta du Mékong dans le Sud du Pays.
    Le voyage commence par la découverte de Hanoi, la capitale du pays. Il se poursuit dans le Nord vers Sapa et ses rizières en terrasses puis la région enclavée de Ha Giang et Dong Van où vivent encore de nombreuses minorités ethniques.
    La seconde partie concerne la région centrale, l’Annam avec l’ancienne capitale impériale de Hué, l’ancien comptoir commercial de Hoi An et la ville moderne de Danang en pleine expension.
    Pour finir on découvrira la grande métropole de la Cochinchine, Saigon renommée Ho Chi Minh Ville depuis 1975 et une petite excursion dans le delta du Mékong à la découverte de Can Tho et de ses marchés flottants.
