    About the Book

    Edit

“The Way I See It…” (graveyard imagery) is the first in a series of photographic collections by Xandra. Graveyards are an often overlooked image of beauty. Dates and names are not the focus rather, the visual scene in itself. Like whispers of the past, each photo has a story to tell.

The images contained herein are from mostly neglected and forgotten burial grounds hidden away in nearby cities and towns. The photographs are taken as the site rests in its natural state whether that be dilapidated or tended with loving care. None of the gravesites or articles left at the sites are altered in any way by the photographer and the shots taken are as the sites were found.

These photographs speak of cultural beliefs, economic status and family connections. Over time, nature takes its course and weathers these graves of remembrances uniquely. In doing so, this reminds us that in fact, even these aged monuments possess their own mortality.

These photographs are meant to invoke emotion within. Let these images of wood and stone speak to you.

    Xandra
    Xandra
    Phoenix, Arizona

Xandra is a 3rd generation native of Arizona. She is inspired primarily by old architecture, relics and cemeteries. A Self taught photographer with a unique vision to share, she enjoys exploring historical sites. (i.e.: old mining towns, graveyards and structures of architectural interest) Xandra uses digital photography with minimal, if any, modifications through editing software, thus the purity of the original photos are preserved. Xandra enjoys the “sport” capturing of a photograph using only the camera settings. “Sport”, as defined by her is the art of getting the shot against challenges and obstacles such as visual background distractions, lighting etc. A high value is placed on the integrity of the original photo therefore; you may find that some of her images contain limitations of the camera and natural obstructions. These are purposefully left in tact as to convey honesty versus editing practices.
