    About the Book

    Edit

This story, told by Helen Stickney, is a small glimpse into the 93 years of her life. It relives her childhood in Mitchell, and later Hibbing, Minnesota, and the challenging, yet simpler times of life in the early 19th century.

Helen was raised on a dairy farm in a town that made history. Starting in 1919, Helen saw Mitchell literally moved one building at a time, over steel wheels and logs, to an area two miles south to make way for the largest iron ore mining operation in the 1920s. The move took years to complete, and changed her address from Mitchell to Hibbing, Minn.

This book also chronicles the love story between Helen, and her husband of 67 years, Roy E. Stickney. From their fairytale beginning through their twilight years, Helen shares cherished memories she holds dear in her heart.

Marolan Tilcock is the daughter of Helen's son, Dr. Robert R. Stickney. Both Marolan and her dad share a love of writing - and it appears Marolan's daughter, Hannah, has discovered the same passion within herself. (The more the merrier!) Marolan discovered her interest in writing while working for a weekly newspaper in Bothell, Washington, called "The Northshore Citizen." For 5 years she did everything from delivering papers when the paperboy's were sick, to selling advertising. Her main job was office manager, but the part she loved best was writing a monthly editorial historical column; interviewing brides, writing the police beat, and the obituaries. Since then, she writes mostly short stories for herself and for friends who have cancer. This biography was begun over four years ago. Ultimately, cancer interceded and delays were inevitable. With great patience and persistence this piece, a true labor of love, is Marolan's gift to her amazing and beautiful Gram.
