'She Ain't Heavy, She's My Mother' is my story of my mother and father, but mostly my mother. They were not rich or famous, were not well educated or skilled in any way but their lives have left a big impression on us, their children.

We had very little; no money, no possessions of worth and sometimes we didn't even have electricity or enough food, but we were loved and cared for by them both.

Circumstances were to change our lives when my father died in 1969. Then commenced the struggle to survive; to help my mother cope with both the death of her husband and her baby daughter two years previously. Her fight with cancer, ill health and depression and her final 10 year battle with dementia.

By writing this book I lay my innermost feelings about the 'guilt' I have carried for 35 years, that 'guilt' being my mother.
