    About the Book

    Edit

In Sudbury there exists a building. It is large, it is old. I have only been inside this building a few times. I've been inside to watch plays and watch music in the Auditorium. I had always felt this building was interesting, but I was always intimidated by it. I never did overcome my shyness to walk in and look around the rest of the building.

Years later, following my studies in History at University, I studied to become a Photographer. a Photojournalist to be specific. These studies gave me the confidence to explore my curiosity, expand my exposure to the world, to ask questions, to find answers; most importantly these studies invited me to use my imagination to create images and to tell stories of the images I captured.

Photography opened my mind to the experiences of others, to the stories of the moment, it permitted me to create a world that is stopped in time. My photographs became stories of an instant, they are the stories of emotions, of rituals, of events and ceremonies that are passed down from generation to generation.

As a Photojournalist and Historian I sought to capture the Culture of Sudbury Secondary School. I have always carried with me the belief that Culture is integral to my photography. In the summer of 2011 I was invited to witness and photograph the transformation that was occurring at Sudbury Secondary School in Downtown Sudbury. For this project I took with me my equipment, my openness to view both old and new aspects of the building, but most importantly I took with me the curiosity of the building that I had encountered as a child. The only difference was that I was older now, I had already undergone the “High School” experience. I knew that within the halls, in the classrooms, in the doorways there existed a spirit of learning, dreams of creation, a history that was exceptional to Sudbury. This is the temple of Art Culture for Sudbury. This book represents what I saw.
