You could spend a number of days enjoying the hiking/bicycling trails in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada. Author George Czerny has. In fact, he has spent years in Collingwood and area and watched this Georgian Bay town's trail development evolve to a total of 50 kilometres. Many of these well-maintained trails, which can be used for cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing, in the winter time, border Collingwood's waterfront offering splendid, panoramic views of nearby Blue Mountain, or Georgian Bay. Czerny's rides take readers to Rotary Sunset Park, the Harbourlands Park, Millennium Overlook Park, Harbourview Park and the Heather Parkway. On a clear day, one can see to neighbouring Wasaga Beach, which is home to the world's longest freshwater beach. Collingwood, population 19,500, is a four-seasons' tourist community which has attracted a burgeoning retirement population and also caters to thousands of younger folks who come to downhill ski, mountainbike on the nearby hills, or hike, or ride the local trails. Czerny provides 106 photographs in "Collingwood's Walk of History", as well as text which tells about his walks and rides on these terrific trails. Some of the many colour photographs offer brilliant bird's-eye views in aerial photographs. He also provides a glimpse into Collingwood's shipbuilding history with photographs which show the unique sidelaunching that went on at what was once this small town's economic-backbone industry. The Walk of History also traces the names of ships built in Collingwood which are honoured with commemorative plates which tell when the ships were built.Ride with George as you flip through the pages of this 54-page book and enjoy an interesting look at enjoyable aspects of this cosmopolitan community's recreational amenities. Collingwood is located about a 1 1/2-hour drive north of Toronto. Georgian Bay is park of Lake Huron, one of the five, famous Great Lakes. If you can't visit Collingwood, having Czerny's Walk of History book at your fingertips is the next best thing. As a result, it makes an excellent gift to send to family and friends to show them Collingwood. Or, to give readers a graphic idea of what Collingwood offers before they come to enjoy the town itself.

    George Czerny
    Collingwood, Ontario, Canada

George Czerny-Holownia has been writing for more than four decades under the name George Czerny. He spent almost 30 years in the newspaper business, starting as a reporter/photographer and then taking on any challenges thrown at him in a newsroom. He moved on from being managing editor of a daily newspaper to becoming the publisher and general manager of the then-weekly newspaper, The Enterprise-Bulletin in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada. A 14-year stint at the helm of this community newspaper put him in close proximity with small-town community life and the then-busy (but now closed) Collingwood Shipyards about which he has written. Mr. Czerny married Nancy in 1968. They live in Collingwood, Ontario. George and Nancy have two sons, Stephen and Douglas, and five grandchildren to whom The Collingwood Shipyards book is dedicated. George has published four books using the Blurb system and enjoys boating in his spare time.
