These poems and images are the result of an artistic collaboration that began on a snowy day in January of 2009 at the remains of the Shaker Village in Enfield, New Hampshire. We have stayed in The Great Stone Dwelling where the Shaker brethren and sisters once lived. We have worshipped with the practicing Shakers at Sabbathday Lake Village in New Gloucester, Maine. We have witnessed treasure troves of Shaker relics not yet available for public viewing and visited a Shaker Village in the earliest stages of restoration. We have visited Shaker Villages throughout New England and New York State. An adventure it has been and still there is more to see and more to learn. May these images and verse be an invitation to others to also discover the story of the Shakers.
