    About the Book

The settling of the San Joaquin Valley of California started when indigenous hunters migrated from other territories in search of food and out of simple, curiosity. As they crossed the mountain passes they discovered a huge lake of fresh water that covered an area from present day Bakersfield to around Stockton. They found this lake so abundant with wild life that many of the travelers stayed in the area to live.

In 1850, German born Hans Muller ran afoul of the law in England. He immigrated to America and became the Lawman, Homer Miller. He married gun packing Kelly Kroeger and started a family that followed in his footsteps as a Lawmen. Together, Homer, his sons Otto and Buford and close friend Tommy Nine Toes helped bring the law to the Central Valley of California. The railroad, the discovery of gold, and the decimation of the American Indians brings no shortage of lawbreakers to this collection of six short stories that tell the drama, government corruption, and love that built the West.

The last story in the collection is a modern day Western/Police Story of Marshal Ray Miller’s handling of an 8 victim murder/robbery at a local drinking establishment in Tulare County. Chief Miller has his own idea of law enforcement as it was handed down to him from his Dad and his Uncle who had run the Tulare County Marshal’s Office and Posse since the beginning of time. It was said, in the backrooms of the old Courthouse, that God had made the world in six days. On the seventh day, God rested. On the eighth day he made Marshal Buford Miller and his brother Marshal Otto Miller. Then Buford made Marshal Ray Miller himself.
