    Hardbound Edition.

Douglas Smith’s photographs from his extensive survey of foreclosed homes in the Central Valley of California portray effects of recent economic turmoil that appear in almost all neighborhoods. Photographing as an artist as well as historian, Smith recognized the powerful stories - sometimes whispered, sometimes screamed – that the vacant repossessed homes conveyed. He found hints of sadness but also overtones of joy, love, spontaneity, and intimacy.
