In 1920, a leading Minneapolis businessman and publisher bought a small house on the edge of the village of Marine on St. Croix. Soon, William C. Edgar came to love "the little white house at the end of the unfrequented road" and "the peaceful little village that lies below the hill."



William C. Edgar captured his love for this place in a small book titled Five Essays, dedicated to his wife, Anne. This book reprints Edgar's original essays, which capture his joy experiencing life in Marine on St. Croix. The introduction, by Fred W. Hundt, reveals that much of what Edgar loved about Marine still exists for us to share and enjoy today.
