About the Book
During a train journey from Ghent to Cádiz, photographer Rudi Francken explores the Japanese concept of Ma (間):
the quiet interval between time and space.
In a series of black-and-white portraits, he depicts travellers suspended in this in-between state — between departure and arrival, between anticipation and letting go.
Their own photographs, taken at their final destination, form a contrasting coda:
images in colour, full of new life.
MA is an invitation to relearn the value of emptiness and to observe what happens when, for a moment, nothing is required of us.
