About the Book
My Life’s Journey by Gabriel (Gabe) Gregoratos, M.D. starts with a description of his family roots, his childhood, the four years he spent under Nazi Occupation, and the high school years that resulted in his emigration to the U.S. Descriptions of college and medical school life follow, replete with insights on the culture differences between the U.S. and Greece, many personal events and his marriage to a student nurse during his junior year in medical school. There followed a twenty year period in the U.S. Army during which he served as a Flight Surgeon, Internist, and Cardiologist in stateside and overseas posts and retired with the rank of Colonel. Army life is detailed along with the many personal events that include the births of his three children. Following the Army period comes a thirty-five-year, mostly academic, career in three University of California campuses, during which he was recognized as an authority in his chosen field of Clinical Cardiology. This period also includes numerous important family events, such as the marriages of his children, the births of four grandchildren, the marriage of two and the births of three great grandchildren. The memoir features many photographs illustrating each of the 44 chapters and concludes with retirement and moving to a residential care facility for the elderly where he continues to reside with Eva, his wife of 72 years.
