    About the Book

    Edit

The world at the edge of the stratosphere is the same as it was thousands of years ago.
A human being who lived 20,000 years ago would have been able to observe the same things we see today: the same plays of light, the same cloud formations. It can be assumed that these scenes will still be visible thousands of years from now.

The "Skyscapes" series presents timeless moods captured at high altitudes. When viewing the images, one feels a peculiar calm—yet something seems to be missing. What remains hidden? In fact, these photographs were taken under extremely dynamic conditions and with great technical effort. This tension between appearance and creation transfers to the viewer. What has happened? What is going on? What lies ahead?

The distant perspective puts problems and differences into perspective—an effect often described by astronauts after their missions. Awareness of the bigger picture grows; taking a step back can reveal what truly matters. What counts, what is really important? Can the ancient human dream of flying be explained by the longing for this very sense of overview?

Mentioning the location and year of each photograph places the images in a broader context and offers cues for grasping their depth. The impact of the image changes.

The photographs emphasize the universal. The transcendence captured in them has a unifying quality: in front of this backdrop, all humans are equal. In a time of great tension, returning to this idea is essential.
