    About the Book

    Edit

James Baisley is a graduate of Fordham College and Law School. He served in the Marine Corps in Korea and Japan and was the General Counsel and a director of several American businesses. He and his wife, Barbara, have eight children, 28 grandchildren, and, so far, nine great grandchildren. In retirement, Jim is devoting his time to providing legal assistance to wounded Marines.

Reviewer Michael Ambrosio, Professor Seton Hall University Law School, said "Having taught law school courses for over 50 years, I believe that knowing the relationship between law and morality is critically important. The position expressed in James Baisley’s book is that ethical considerations should have primacy in all business decisions. His conclusion is based on Natural law and his personal experience of over half a century as a corporate lawyer and director. The guidelines for making business decisions are in accord with the first universal principle of Natural Law “that the good is should be done and pursued and evil is to be avoided.” Baisley’s guidelines underscore the primacy of ethics in every business decision because of his conclusion, based on his experience, that “doing what is right is always in the best interest of the shareholders.” His guidelines promote the fundamental values of truth, friendship and religion in clear and readily understandable language. This book illustrates the fundamental importance of promoting the common good of all of the stakeholders in the business including shareholders, customers, employees, creditors, and the public. All who read this short book will find it to be enjoyable reading and an excellent supplement to business or law school courses on corporations and professional responsibility."
