    About the Book

    Edit

drawn from ancient Irish manuscripts - inspired by Celtic folksong

Here are the five beautiful ballads of ‘The Bard’ that weave through Jodie O'Regan's chamber opera Fire Songs. These songs tell the story of Brigid’s journey into the sky, from woman to fire Goddess of Ireland.

The beautiful collector’s book presents the words and the sheet music alongside the story of Brigid’s life, and Jodie’s journey in writing the music. This forms a companion book to the stunning recording that is available to hear online.

It is a treasure for lovers of Celtic music and stories, a fascinating insight into the alchemy of bringing ancient stories to new life and a rich resource for singers and music lovers.

The book includes beautifully laid out sheet music you can follow whilst listening to the stunning recording online. You can also buy the sheet music as a PDF for performers’ and packet of five note cards featuring text and art from the book.

The songs form a cohesive and lovely song-cycle, arranged as simple vocal scores that you can adapt to your instruments - voice with harp or piano, or used as lead sheets for guitar etc.

The songs sit comfortably for both mezzo and soprano and with a little wriggle room to introduce each song, go for about 25 mins.
