    About the Book

    Edit

Following old Highway 61 and the Mississippi River north to Chicago in search of the graves of the original Blues music giants. Along red dirt roads, passing cotton fields and bayous, through desperate down and out towns, magical music meccas and majestic mega cities. With America’s disparity in plain sight and the drumbeat of a shocking and unexpected discovery keeping time with the journey. The same journey many African-Americans made (along with their music) to escape cotton fields, segregation and lynch mobs of the south, to equality and the factories of Chicago and beyond.

    Bill Savage
    Coventry

Born in the industrial Midlands of England’s Black Country, the family later moved to Birmingham, nicknamed “The City of a Thousand Trades”. Bill now lives with his family in a quiet hamlet in Warwickshire. With a prominent creative streak, Bill transforms many an ordinary object into “Objet d’art”, exhibiting pieces in local art galleries, with some being sold internationally. A passion for solo travel and photography has lead Bill to many off-beat places no regular traveller would ever visit. As an award winning photographer and with his first book, “Canal is King” being featured in a number of magazines, Bill continues his travels to places where interesting, quirky and sometime completely bonkers people inhabit, keeping an eye out for that perfect picture to tickle his lens.
