    About the Book

    Edit

Follow Europe's descent into WW2 from the vantage point of the adventurous wife of an AP reporter. Alma De Luce was a writer and a photographer in her own right, and her letters written from London, Central Europe, and the Middle East from1939-1941 detail societies being drawn into the maelstrom of conflict from Budapest to Beirut, and many places in between. She describes world events while moving with her Pulitzer Prize winning husband from London to Budapest. They travel extensively in eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. Their European adventure takes a more ominous turn when German forces invade Greece and they are forced to flee to neutral Turkey and eventually Iran. Their story takes yet another turn when the United States declares war on the Axis powers following Dec. 7, 1941.

I received a BA in history from Scripps College, an MA in European History from University of Illinois, and was a Summer Seminarian at West Point in 2004. I am the recipient of awards from the American Legion, the Indiana Historical Society, the DAR and the Indianapolis WW2 Round Table. I have taught European History, Military History, Historiography at the secondary level, and German at secondary and college levels. I founded and continue to direct the Legacy Initiative Project, whose mission is to provide hands-on history research opportunities for motivated students, including the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. Hundreds of the best wartime oral histories, letters and diaries have been published in five anthologies, four biographies, as well as WW1 and WW2 themed travel journals. I have lived and traveled in Europe and Asia with family, groups of students and adults. For more details about the Legacy Initiative Project go to: www.parktudor.org/legacy
