    About the Book

    Edit

"John Cooley's “Mark Twain, Halley's Comet and the Angelfish” is a
fascinating portrayal of America's greatest writer as he faces the
end of his life. The two he loved best, his wife Livy and his daughter
Susy are gone, and his envious daughter Clara is determined to
control his reputation and his fortune. She is threatened by his
adoring teen-age “Angelfish” who respond to his need for admiration
and affection. When Clara intervenes, the result is heartbreaking.
Cooley illuminates a dramatic and surprising aspect of Twain's
daring and unruly life. The play enlarges our understanding of his greatness." Elizabeth Diggs, playwright and professor of dramatic writing at Tisch/NYU

    C. Ryder Cooley
    Hudson, NY, USA

    C. Ryder Cooley is an inter-disciplinary artist, musician and performer. Weaving together chimeric visions with hypnotic songs and projections, her work reveals a terrain of lost dreams and phantom memories. Most recently, Ryder has been working on a series of multi-media performances about human-animal relations and extinction. She performs with Hazel, a decapitated taxidermy sheep, who comes to life through their collaboration. Ryder has performed in numerous bands and productions from San Francisco to New York. Currently she is playing with the Dust Bowl Faeries, an electro-accoustic dark folk trio. Recordings and events can be found via her website, www.crydercooley.com.
