    Grandson of Patrick Hoggard of Bertie County and John Richmond. Grew up in Washington County, Virginia. Married Sarah Fletcher in Knox County, Kentucky, and moved from Kentucky to western Missouri in 1832. Lived on the frontier his whole life, ending in the Mercer Colony in Texas.
