    About the Book

    Edit

Seven islands are explored: the central city, Burano and Murano, favourites with the tourists; two other islands that are part of the central vista from the waterfront of St Mark’s Square, namely, St Giorgio Maggiore and Giudecca; the unusual San Michele which was the main cemetery for Venice, and finally Pellestrina a remote thin sliver of land at the southern edge of the lagoon. Poetry is used to illuminate ideas, emotional conditions or points in time. Photographic images are used alongside poetry to enhance feelings engendered by the pictures and to link these emotions to the human story. Descriptive text is presented to provide context. The aim is to stimulate the viewer’s experience and ultimately to facilitate speculation on imagined people's lives at particular points in space and time.

    Ken Waldie
    Chester

Before retiring at 58, he served a five-year apprenticeship and gained degrees in engineering. An early career included managerial roles in chemical plant maintenance, method change, and bulk transport. Passionate about learning, he achieved a MSc in organisation change. He spent 12 years in Hong Kong as a principal lecturer and company training manager, where he studied Mandarin and competed as a long-distance runner. Back in the UK, he led initiatives in management training and change, becoming CEO of a joint venture company. After retiring, for 12 years he was a professional walking guide across Europe and partially fluent in Italian. Now, he explores photography and writes poetry to integrate and create cohesive stories. His early life, an upbringing in an RAF family shaped him, so he perceives himself as bit of a rolling stone. Married for over fifty years he has 2 adult children. With a slower pace in life, he is exploring sketching as an alternative to creating photo images.
