    Liza Parsnips, a mid-twentieth century New England girl, learns to make glass marbles. One of her early marbles proves to have magical powers. When that marble is lost, Liza sets out on a quest to find it. Along the way she is helped (or not) by a host of colorful characters, both human and animal. The story is sprinkled with Facts, Rules and Hints concerning life and the living of it.
