the Holocaust. Where a warning against
forgetfulness is preserved at a museum in
Oświęcim Brzezinka, the most notorious of more
than 20 German concentration camps. It is a
place where communism was confronted by Solidarity protests and demands brought forward by a unification of workers, marking the first triumph of a grass-roots movement in the history of the Soviet block, where everything must be controlled from above. Where the seemingly impossible proved possible by the sheer strength of the human spirit.
