About the Book
The work in this publication was completed over a two year period by Keith Anthony Martin while participating in a community arts project involving a group of elders situated in Hillcrest Community Centre, Vancouver, British Columbia. Originally called Agents of Change, the group renamed itself Collective Agency.
The Collective Agency Project initiative is a public art project that began in February 2020. The project provided a group of seniors a unique opportunity to work with a team of established artists over an extended period of time to produce socially engaged, photo-based public artwork.
Over two years, the Collective Agency investigated the potential of photography and photo-based media via a series of workshops. The project was open to interaction, experimentation, collaboration and growth as the group built skills. It evolved in focus toward a set of significant public projects that have become a lasting legacy.
