    About the Book

    Edit

Join us as we go on a journey in learning more about the foster child experience. As many people know, representation through literature has long and lasting impacts. Both on folks being represented, and for community members who might not have experienced certain challenges.

“From Foster Care to Changing the World” is the true story of one child growing up in foster care, fighting to not give up on their dreams. This is my story, and I hope: to inspire children who have had similar challenges in never giving up on their dreams; to open opportunities for conversations which destigmatize mental health; and to strengthen representation for foster children in literature, and in leadership.

A larger vision of hope, would be that folks would grow to be more understanding of foster children’s needs, be better friends through a greater sense of empathy, and to inspire folks to foster, mentor, or adopt. Every foster child, can one day change the world. Whether by staying on a healthy track, or by becoming a leader making direct positive impacts in their communities through whatever field or career they choose. We must get involved though, as a village.

This book was a healing and collaborative process. The author wrote the story and her children illustrated the artwork in the book. Together, created a deeper understanding of each other. Although the author is also an artist, she believes it is extremely important to raise up children’s art, because all art is beautiful, especially children’s art.
