The world is familiar with the beauty of Hula, Hawaii's native dance. But what does it take to produce such power and beauty? Photographer Floyd K. Takeuchi spent two years documenting the life of one of Hawaii's largest and best-known Halau, or hula schools. He was given unrestricted access by the Halau's founder, Kumu Hula Sonny Ching. The result is Halau: A Life In Hula, a unique look behind the scenes at the dedication, discipline, devotion and joy that go into training some of the most accomplished hula dancers in the world. Takeuchi closely followed the Halau in Hawaii and in Japan.
